About Us

The department received its first batch of undergraduates in the Fall semester of 2004, and its first batch of graduate students was enrolled in Fall 2008. It is the only Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in Taiwan that established the Graduate Program of Ethnicity and Culture. In addition, it is also the only department at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University that is joined by professional faculty with expertise in the humanities and social sciences. The department provides fundamental discipline training regarding humanities and social sciences, with its faculty expertise in anthropology, sociology, history, and cultural industries (literature and theater play).

The department is affiliated with the College of Hakka Studies and is situated at the Liujia campus of NYCU in Zhubei County. The campus was initially intended for planning a folklore park before it was transformed into an educational site. Therefore, the College is encircled by Hakka heritage buildings such as "Wen Li Tang" (3rd rank heritage), which enhances its cultural vibes. This area is now the permanent location of the International Hakka Research Center, and it is used by the staff and students of the College for teaching and research purposes.

Take the Taiwan High Speed Rail to Hsinchu Station, and then take Exit 4 in the lobby on the first floor of Hsinchu Station. Go to Platform 2 and take Bus No. 182 (towards Beida Bridge). Get off at the "Wenxing Jiaxing Road Intersection" stop (about 8 minutes by bus), and it's about a 5-minute walk to the campus.

Take the train to Hsinchu Railway Station, then transfer to Bus No. 182 (towards Beida Bridge). Get off at the "Wenxing Jiaxing Road Intersection" stop (about 30-40 minutes by bus), and it's about a 3-minute walk to the campus.

After exiting the Hsinchu Interchange, get off at the Jiaoda Station and take Bus No. 182 (towards Beida Bridge). The bus stop is next to the gas station. Then get off at the "Wenxing Jiaxing Road Intersection" stop (about 25 minutes by bus), and it's about a 3-minute walk to the campus.
